What Is The Bowen Therapy ?

The Bowen Technique is an alternative therapy that stimulates energy flow and strengthens the immune system to combat pains and discomforts in the body. It is particularly beneficial for sports injuries.

During a bowen therapy session the therapist will apply precise rolling moves on skin, muscles and tendons using their fingers and thumbs. It is relaxing procedure with short breaks after each movement to allow the body time to respond.

Tom Bowen : Founder Of The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique was devised by Wolverhampton born Thomas Ambrose Bowen in Australia in the 1950’s. The success of  his private clinics led to him treating some 13,000 patients a year with a sucess rate for 80-90%.

In 1986, with the help of his student former massage therapist Oswald Rentsch, his clerk Rene Horwood and his wife Elaine, Tom began to document the Bowen Technique and bring it to other countries. This alternative therapy has been used in the UK since 1993 and clinical studies have shown it to have impressive results.
